State of Ohio Flag
A flag is a symbol of the place it represents. The design is taken as the embodiment of certain ideals or values. How a flag is displayed or stored speaks volumes about the respect shown to that symbol. There are specific rules for folding the American flag. Different rules apply to folding the state flags.
Instructions
1. Consider the Ohio flag's unusual shape. Most flags are simple rectangular banners. Ohio's, by contrast, is of a swallowtail design. Specifically, it has the form of what is called an Ohio Burgee. The 2 long sides of the flag slope slightly downward toward a pair of swallowtail points. The "almost triangle" of the flag is mimicked by an actual blue triangle that occupies the left half of the banner. The blue field is covered with 17 white stars that represent Ohio's place as the 17th state admitted to the Union. In the center of the field is a white "O" with a red interior. The "O" stands for "Ohio," while the overall pattern of the circles stands for Ohio's nickname of the Buckeye State. This is the central feature of the banner. The remainder of the Ohio State Flag sports 5 alternating red and white stripes.
2. Follow official guidelines when folding the State of Ohio Flag. On February 15, 2005 the State adopted highly symbolic procedures for folding the banner. Two people grasp the flag and fold it in half lengthwise. The two points of the swallowtail are perfectly aligned. Fold the flag lengthwise a second time. The red disc of the "O" should be pointed toward the ground. Grasp the flag by the pointed end, and fold it back toward the straight end. You should have formed a rectangle.
3. Continue folding the State of Ohio Flag from the same end. Alternate the folds up and down, accordion-style. The exact length of each fold will depend on the specific size of your banner. All in all, you should make 14 folds of exactly the same length. Together with the original 3 folds described in Step 2, this makes 17 folds. The 17 folds equal the number of stars on the flag. Take the remaining unfolded part of the flag and wrap it tightly around the rest of the banner to produce a compact rectangle. The flag can now be carried or stored. .
