Cincinnati Riverfront


Cincinnati was founded in 1788 and grew quickly thanks to its location on the Ohio River. The metropolitan area of the city covers parts of Southern Ohio and across the river into northern Kentucky. The riverfront and downtown areas have undergone extensive development and revitalization adding to the cities cultural and architectural diversity. Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport serves the area with eight major airlines.


Attractions


Cincinnati offers outstanding indoor and outdoor attractions. The downtown area presents varied architecture including the Cathedral Basilica of Assumption. The Cathedral houses America's largest hand-blown stained glass window complete with gargoyles and flying buttresses.


Zagat rated The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden one of the top zoos in the nation. Visitors will find replicated natural habitats, more than 500 animals representing each continent, and extensive gardens containing over 3,000 plants. The Newport Aquarium highlights 7,000 aquatic animals in world-class exhibits. Transparent floors, a touch pool, and over 200 feet of underwater tunnels create an up-close and personal experience.


Sports & Festivals


Cincinnati is home to two major league sports team in addition to hosting annual professional sporting events. Great American Ball Park is the home of the Cincinnati Reds, baseball's first professional team. Take in an NFL game at Paul Brown Stadium which houses the Bengals. The Lindner Tennis Center holds professional tournaments and is open for individual use. Kentucky Speedway is the host of many motorsports events including NASCAR and IndyCar Series. Live thoroughbred racing is held at River Downs.


Most of Cincinnati's festivals are held in the revitalized riverfront area. Over Labor Day weekend, nearly 500,000 people on both the Ohio and Kentucky sides of the river attend an end of summer celebration with live music, street entertainers and vendors. Independence Day festivities are topped off by a brilliant fireworks display. North America's largest Oktoberfest occurs in mid-September and is complete with German beer, music, food and activities.


Museums & Conservatories


Children and adults will appreciate The Creation Museum, designed by a former Universal Studios exhibit director. The 65,000-square-foot facility presents interactive murals, scenery and computer-generated images. A special-effects theater produces sea breezes and rumbling seats.


Krohn Conservatory is nationally recognized for its permanent exotic plant displays and seasonal butterfly exhibit. In addition to orchid, palm, desert and tropical houses, the Conservatory features a 20-foot rainforest waterfall. The Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal is home to several museums, a library and an Omnimax Theater. More than 1.47 million visitors see it annually. The Contemporary Arts Center (CAC) focuses on the most modern works in painting, sculpture, photography, architecture, performance art and new media.
