Select The Perfect Grey

Pick the Perfect Gray

Whether it is a techno gray or a silvery gray, these tips and hints will take the mystery of choosing the perfect gray paint color for your application.

Instructions

1. Consider your floor color:

It inherited the much of the neutral character of both of parents, black and gray. Though often considered a neutral it does not have the ability to support every color. For example, orangey oak floors are not well complimented by gray walls. Beige carpeting is also not the ultimate companion of gray unless the gray tends wildly toward violet. Rather the color of the floor should ultimately have black in its inherent makeup. A dark brown wood floor has black in it to give it the richness. In this case, the right gray can suit it well.

2. Complex grays are more difficult to pick, but infinitely more rewarding to live with.

Cool grays, gray greens, gray blues, and warm grays are created by the simple formula of white + black + other color. Easy rule-of-thumb, cool grays look best with cool colors. Conversely, warm grays look best with warm colors. It is very difficult to find aesthetically pleasing examples that defy this rule.

3. Gray suggests depth. Looking out into the distance, the atmospheric and visual effects that blend the colors together result in gray, far off blacks become dark grays, and green hills become more grayed. Because of this phenomenon, our eye equates gray with distance.

4. Contrast is very important when selecting a gray. A wall color that creates a contrast with your furnishings will make your room appear larger. To much extent, choosing any color, be it green, blue, ect, that is slightly grayed will add depth and dimension to your room.
