Corel Painter
X is a graphics program geared towards recreating real world media such as oils, acrylics and watercolors. In effect, it is a digital canvas with media for trained artists. This may seem daunting for new users who do not have any training or to trained artists, who find that the digital version of the media does not behave as expected. Many tips and tutorials are available to help with the software.
Corel Painter X
Corel's website includes examples, guides, tutorials and tips on the features included with Painter X and other Painter versions. Corel also has links to its magazine, which features tips and tutorials on Painter X. Tips include an overview of new features such as the Real Bristle Painting System, Composition Guides including Divine Proportion and Rule of Thirds. The Brushes Guide goes over the different types of brushes in each media category with visual examples of how they paint on a Painter X canvas.
Pixel Alley
Jinny Brown's website Pixel Alley is dedicated to Corel's Painter. The website includes Painter tips, tutorials, a newsletter and history. Tutorials include using tools on a 50 percent gray canvas, a brush tutorial, creating brushes, pencil variants, one-stroke painting, ordering brushes, Transparency in painter, color and composition, and effects tutorials using transformation tools.
Designer Today
This graphic design magazine website archives Jacquelin Vanderwood's Painter tutorials. These tutorials cover a range of topics from feature explanation to full painting tutorials, including woodcuts, making spray nozzles, full painting tutorials using photos to paint animals, using acrylics, watercolors, fonts, painting buildings, landscape scenes, inking, and coloring pencil drawings.
The Painter X Wow! Book
The Painter Wow! Book by Cher Threinen-Pendarvis contains examples, tutorials and tips on the latest features of Painter X. Threinen-Pendarvis has written a "Wow!" book for other versions of Painter as well. The book includes information on use the software, including setting up the work space, a brush overview and using composition tools. Each tutorial starts with a painting and a step-by-step process to follow to create that painting. Each tutorial uses a painting by a different artist and centers on a certain topic, such as color, brushes, selections, masks, layers, photo enhancements, special effects, fonts, animation and printing.
Digital Painting Fundamentals with Corel Painter X
This book by Rhoda Grossman focuses on introductory painting with a Wacom tablet and Painter X. The book includes tutorials that teach basic skills in painting and drawing. Grossman includes information on warm-up practices, basic drawing that includes still life, clone tools, layers, flowers, landscapes, painting water, watercolor paint, drawing portraits, negative space, self-portraits, fine art prints, vectors, masks, mixed media, caricature, figure drawing, abstracts, animation, and typography.
Painter X Creativity: Digital Artist's Handbook
Jeremy Sutton's book includes tips on setting up the software itself, use the new features and painting tutorials. Tips include prepare your computer to use painter by freeing as much memory as possible, setting up the interface, and optimizing painter. Tutorials include using textures, design and composition, still life, self-portrait, painting from a photograph, color experimentation, collage, creating scripts to reproduce work, and printing.
Advanced Painter Techniques
Don Seegmiller's book includes step-by-step tutorials on his techniques in Painter X. Tutorials included painting water, clouds, stone, hair and clothing. Each chapter contains a full tutorial on one painting. Oil Portraits includes adding lighting, depth, oil painting process and texture. Chapter 2 covers landscape painting and techniques for painting clouds, water and stone. The tutorial on making stone look wet includes textures, using gradients, shadows, layers and lighting. Fantasy Forest teaches create a landscape image using image nozzles and special brushes. Night scene tutorials include composition, cloning, flames, smoke and tone. Painting a Sea Serpent includes paper textures, digital watercolors, detail painting, fog and reflection. Other tutorials included character design, leaves, backgrounds, mood and tone.
