Apply Silver Leaf Fresh paint

Apply Silver Leaf Paint

Silver leaf isn't actually a paint at all. Instead, it is thin sheets of silver that you apply to an adhesive to add a silver look to a wall, a piece of furniture or another object such as a fireplace mantel. You can coat any solid object in silver leaf, including wood, glass, metal or plastic, or you can use it as an accent on a wall. It is easy to do, and it can add a look of elegance to any room.

Instructions

1. Paint the object you want to silver leaf with primer, and wait for the primer to dry.

2. Paint over the primer with the bole color you want to go under the silver leaf. The bole color is just the base color of the piece you want to silver leaf. If the silver leaf flakes off the piece, you see the bole color underneath. The bole color can be any type and color of paint. Wait for the bole color to dry.

3. Apply the adhesive to the object you want to silver leaf. Choose a size of adhesive that suits your needs. The size of the adhesive refers to how long it takes to reach tact, the point at which you can apply the silver leaf, and how long you can apply the silver leaf to it after it has reached tact. For example, quick-dry adhesive takes one to three hours to reach tact, and you can apply the silver leaf for one to two hours after that. Wait for the adhesive to dry to its tact. Test the tact of the adhesive by gently pressing your knuckles into it. If it is no longer liquid but is still sticky and it makes a ticking sound as you pull your hand away, then it is ready for the silver leaf.

4. Remove a single sheet of silver leaf paper from the booklet of silver leaf, and lay it, silver side down, over the adhesive. Brush the silver leaf paper into the adhesive gently with the gilder's brush. Remove the back of the silver leaf paper. Silver leaf the entire area in this fashion.
