Instructions
Using Paint
1. Open Paint, click the Paint button in the top-left corner of the screen and select "Properties." Change the Paint workspace to your preferred invitation size by typing the dimensions into the "Width" and "Height" boxes, such as "6" and "4," respectively. Select the "Inches" button and click "OK." Paint automatically resizes the invitation.
2. Select a colored square in the "Colors" section for the main invitation text color. Click the "Text" tool, which looks like an "A" in the "Tools" section. Click the white Paint workspace and select a font and font size.
3. Type the main invitation greeting, such as "You're Invited!" or "Sweet 16 Party." Click lower on the invitation, reduce the font size and type additional information, such as the time and date of the party, where to go, themes and respond.
4. Select a new color from the "Colors" section. Click the "Fill With Color" tool, which looks like a tilting can of paint, on the "Tools" section. Click the white space on the invitation, which fills with the background color behind the text.
5. Click the Paint button, click "Save As," type a name for the invitation and save it to your computer.
Using Publisher
6. Open Publisher and click the "Invitation Cards" button near the bottom of the "Available Templates" pane. Scroll through the preset Publisher templates and double-click an invitation. Any invitation may be changed and customized, so choose one with a general appearance you like. Within a few moments, the invitation will download and open in a new Publisher window.
7. Click into a text box on the invitation and the words become highlighted. Type directly over them with your own greeting, such as "Halloween Party" or "Join Us!" Repeat this to replace all of the placeholder text boxes on the card, including the contact information spots and the description of the party.
8. Click the "Page Design" tab at the top of the screen. Hover your cursor over the groups of colors in the "Schemes" section of the toolbar and watch how the colors on the card change. Double-click a color group, such as one that goes with your party theme, to commit the change to the invitation.
9. Click once on a graphic on the invitation and press the "Delete" key on the keyboard to remove it. Click the "Insert" tab at the top of the screen. Click the "Clip Art" button and type a word or phrase such as "party," "Halloween," "presents" or "birthday" into the "Search for" box and click "Go." Scroll through the results and double-click a graphic to add it to the invitation.
10. Click the "File" tab at the top of the screen. Click "Save As" and type a name for the invitation, then save it to the computer.
Using Photoshop
11. Open Photoshop, click the "File" menu and select "New." Type "Invitation" into the "Name" box and type a number into each of the "Width" and "Height" boxes, such as "7" and "5." Select "inches" from the dimensions drop-down box and click the "OK" button to open the blank Photoshop workspace.
12. Click the "Type" tool, which looks like a "T" on the "Tools" palette on the left side of the screen. Select a font, text color and text size from the toolbar at the top of the screen. Click the white Photoshop box and type the invitation heading, such as "Welcome Home Party" or "It's a Surprise Party!"
13. Reduce the font size, click lower on the invitation workspace and type additional party details, such as what to wear, what to bring, where to park, directions and contact information.
14. Double-click the top-left square of the "Color Picker," the two overlapping colored boxes on the "Tools" palette. Choose a background color and click "OK." Click the "Paint Bucket" tool on the "Tools" palette and click the white invitation space, which fills with color. If you don't see the "Paint Bucket," right-click an icon that looks like a rectangle made of gray lines and select "Paint Bucket Tool" from the fly-out menu.
15. Click the "File" menu, click "Save As" and save the invitation to the computer.
