Coordinate 3 Fresh paint Colors Inside A Room

The right paint colors can bring harmony to any home design project, so consider your paint color scheme as the core of your project rather than the finishing touch. You must take a few steps when coordinating three paint colors for any room, and determining the function and character you want to create in the space will help dictate the best approach for creating color harmony.

Instructions

1. Determine the function of your space. Are you creating a dramatic entertaining area, a soothing relaxation nook, or a lively childrens' play room? For example, transform an ordinary bathroom into a soothing space by applying a monochromatic color scheme that uses three shades of soothing blue. This approach wouldn't work as well in a dynamic, energizing space. The purpose of your space will determine which three colors are best suited for the room.

2. Decide what colors you already have to work with. Are you purposing existing furniture, textiles and decorating objects, or are you starting from scratch? If you're reusing objects you already have, gather the items you will use in the space, and look for common color themes. For example, are there deep wooden furniture pieces you can use? These pieces will lend themselves well to rich, earthy paint colors, such as burgundy, chocolate and olive. If you are starting the room from scratch, pick one object you love to be the focal point (an engaging piece of artwork or a bed duvet, for example), and use the colors in that piece to dictate the color scheme for your room.

3. Familiarize yourself with color theory and what colors your personality is naturally drawn to. Doing so will ensure that the space you create is enjoyable to you. Visit websites of well-known paint manufacturers to explore color themes, view sample designs and experiment with different color palates to become familiar with the type of area you'd like to create.

4. Ask the experts at your local home design store for their tips and advice. Often they'll know what three paint colors work best together, depending on the space you are creating.
