There are many ways to add texture to a digital painting.
Digital painting uses a computer program to produce artwork. A skilled artist can use a program in almost exactly the same way as traditional physical media, using brushes and colors on a digital canvas. However, digital painting has many features and options that are either impossible or difficult for a traditional medium. For instance, if you want to quickly add realistic texture to a painting rather than painting the texture it yourself, there are many options for making fast textures that can blend naturally into the rest of your artwork.
Instructions
1. Use a filter to change the appearance of the layer of your painting that you are actively working on. Some simple filters will create an overall grainy texture or can imitate the look of a camera blur.
2. Use the brushes that come with most programs. Some of these create textured patterns, such as leaves or grass. Some brushes may not seem to produce a texture, but will if you change the opacity or spread of the brush.
3. Overlay a photo onto your image, which allows you to see both the photograph texture and your painting at the same time and instantly creates texture for your image.Take a digital photograph of an interesting texture, such as bark or dirt, and import the photo onto a new layer in your painting. Lower the opacity of the photo or change the layer setting to a transparent mode.
