Make Construction Flyers
Constructions flyers are an unusual but important graphics job. Perhaps you're the foreman of an upcoming construction job or the owner of a construction company and want to place flyers on cars to warn the public that there will be construction on their block or in front of their apartment complex. Designing your own construction flyers doesn't have to be a daunting project to embark on but it does require you to have access to a computer and good graphics program.
Instructions
1. Create a basic template for your flyer by drawing out your ideas in a sketchbook. You should collect all the information you need to add to your construction flyer before you begin designing it. This information should include the name of your company or organization, a contact person and their phone number, the area that will be blocked off and the times and dates the construction will occur.
2. Gather any graphics you want to use in your flyer on load them onto your computer. For example, clip art of a car in a circle with a line through it can be used to indicate that cars shouldn't park in that particular area.
3. Photoshop is a great program to create your flyer, as is the freeware program GIMP, if you can't afford the former. Go to "File" and then navigate down the menu to "New." Plug in the dimensions you require for your flyer in the dialog box. If you are printing on standard flyer printing paper, use these dimensions. Next, plug in the resolution setting. Normally you want to choose at least 300 pixels for printing. Select a background type for your flyer. White is usually the best background type to select for flyers.
4. Use the tools in the program to create your construction flyer. There are a variety of tools and other options, including filters and image adjustments, that can be used to help you create your flyer's design and structure.
5. Select the "Text" tool to add your text to your document. The "Custom Shape" tool can add various shapes to your flyer, including a warning sign and other symbols.
6. Open any graphics you have saved on your computer to use in your flyer's design. These graphics (photos, clip art) will be placed on a layer when you paste them in. You will need to add "New Layers" in the layers panel as you create additional elements in the program including text or your own created graphics.
7. Save and print your construction flyer. While you can print flyers from your own printer, if you need to print a larger quantity of your flyer it might be a better option to have your construction flyers printed by a print shop or office supply store like Kinko's or Staples. Ask about bulk printing rates if you choose this method to print your construction flyers.
