Fresh paint Your Walls For Crown Molding

Paint your walls for crown molding.

Two ways you can make a big statement in a room are new paint and crown molding. If you plan to do both, schedule your remodeling project so you can paint before you install crown molding. Painting when crown molding is on the wall increases your risk of getting paint on the crown molding, which will make more work for you later. Instead, learn paint walls for crown molding to make the project as easy and efficient as possible.

Instructions

1. Mix a bucket of warm water with three drops of mild dishwashing liquid. Apply it to your walls with a large sponge to wash your walls before you apply paint.

2. Tape the baseboards in the area in which you'll be painting so you don't get paint on them.

3. Measure the width of your crown molding and write it down.

4. Climb a ladder to access the top portions of the wall in your room and mark where your crown molding will sit at the top of your wall. For example, if you have crown molding that's four inches wide, mark four inches from the ceiling. Make these marks in each corner of the room, and then snap chalk lines between each of your markings. This chalk line notes the location where your crown molding will be.

5. Paint the walls in your room, but don't paint all the way up to the ceiling. Instead, apply paint to the wall until you cover the chalk line. Painting up to the ceiling isn't necessary, because the crown molding will hide that section of the wall. In addition, painting up to the ceiling only increases the chance you'll get paint on the ceiling, which will make more work for you later.

6. Wait for your paint to dry before you install crown molding.
