There are a lot of options available for homes with red roofs.
Exterior paint styles are a big part of what gives your house its personality. If you want to add a little additional flavor to your home, you could add a red roof. There are still a number of different styles that you can incorporate into both the roof and the rest of the house even if you've chosen the basic template of "red roof," however, and it's a good idea to explore your options.
Monochrome Style
The monochrome style is when you use only a single color in the entire scheme. For instance, you could paint the entire roof red and the entire home exterior red. However, you don't have to use all the same shade of red while doing the job. The roof could be a light red, and the home beneath a darker, brick red, for instance.
Checkerboard
The checkerboard roof follows the pattern of a chess or checkerboard. The shingles on the roof alternate colors, so you could have a red shingle and then a black shingle, or you could do alternating shades of red on the roof. You could also carry this pattern through to the house itself, which would be easier if the house was brick. Even if the bricks have been laid in a monochromatic pattern, you could always apply paint to create a checkerboard pattern.
Contrasting Colors
Red is a very dominant, eye-catching color. As a result of this, the red roof can actually morph and shape the eye's perspective of the other colors of the house. A faded gray or brown might seem more green, creating a Christmas tree pattern in the viewer. As such, its better to choose a color that contrasts well with the red roof, such as a deep, woody brown for a redwood sort of look.
Unpainted
An option taken by some homeowners is simply not to paint the exterior of the house and only to paint the roof. This is most common when you have an exterior material that already comes in a good color, such as brick or fiberboard, that you see no need to paint over. It's always an option if you don't want to paint your home as well; simply use materials that are already the color you need.
