Game Room Painting Ideas

Game Room
Painting Ideas

A bright, colorful game room creates an atmosphere of fun. Whimsical and inventive designs enhance that feeling, and they're a fun project in themselves. Have a household meeting about paint the game room. Everyone should agree on the design so the family will enjoy spending time there. And if everyone plays a role in producing it, you will have the satisfaction of creating something as a team.

Outer Space

An outer-space-themed room has a dynamic feel, and it's fairly easy to paint. Paint the background a shade of blue, purple or red. You can pick any color--it doesn't have to be dark or realistic. To create circles for heavenly bodies, simply use a compass to draw them on a sheet of paper or trace something round such as a plate. To create patterns for different sizes or elliptical shapes, use a computer drawing program. Print them and cut out the patterns. Or, instead of cutting them out, find or create pictures and use a projector to trace them on the wall. Use different sizes to create dimension in the mural. Smaller ones will seem to be further back, easily creating the illusion of space. Include some faraway and closer stars.

Game Murals

You could also paint game-themed murals on the walls. Create a mural based on Monopoly, Clue or another favorite game. It could be a traditional board game or a video game. Or create a different mural on each wall. They might blend together where one mural transitions into another--Rich Uncle Pennybags from Monopoly could tip his hat to Miss Scarlet from Clue, for instance.

The Beach

People go to the beach to relax, making it a great theme for a game room. Painting crashing waves can be tricky, but you could paint smooth water instead. You could paint part of the room to look like a rocky cove overlooking the ocean. Within it, paint starfish, barnacles, crabs and anemones. And paint a sandcastle or two on the beach, along with a beach towel or chairs or a leaping porpoise in the water.

Mosaic

To create a mosaic, begin with any design you like, and draw it onto the wall freehand or with a projector. Then, place masking tape over it in a random pattern so that chunks of wall space are separated from one another. Paint your mural, and when it's dry, remove the tape. Your painting will then have the look of a mosaic.

Geometric Mural

For a simple, abstract mural, paint bold, overlapping shapes on your walls using different colors. You could use pointillism (tiny dots) or splotching to give them different textures. Include stylized shadow figures at play for a more whimsical touch. Paint them running, leaping and climbing on the shapes. Additionally, as the Family Fun website says, you can make your mural glow at night with glow-in-the-dark paint.
