Mold and mildew on the exterior of a home are unsightly and can lead to rotting of the siding, insulation and even interior portions of the walls. Preventing mold and mildew involves inspecting the gutters and drains to ensure there is proper drainage away from the home, according to the Home Addition Plus website. Getting the mold and mildew problem under control early will prevent costly repairs or siding replacement
Instructions
1. Rinse the area of the home that has visible mold or mildew. Mix 1 gallon of water with 2 cups of bleach. Add 1/8 cup of TSP.
2. Dip a long-handled scrub brush into the mixture. Spread the solution over the affected area and vigorously scrub the siding with the brush. Allow the area to soak for five minutes.
3. Rinse the area with a hose. Scrub again if the mold is still present.
4. Wait five more minutes and rinse again. Repeat this process until the mold and mildew are gone.
