Brick Home with Wood Trim
There are many reasons why you would need to match paint from the color of a brick. Maybe you are painting the wooden trim around a brick home and you want it to match. Maybe you are painting a wooden bench and you want it to match the brick around the home. Whatever the reason is for you to want to match the wood to the color of the brick, there are different avenues that you can take to find the perfect match.
Instructions
1. Decide what look you are wanting. Some bricks have more than one color tone in them, so you usually have more than one option when picking a color for paint. For example, if you are using a red-based brick, but there are cream and black subtle tones in it as well, then the color that you are trying to match a paint to will have to be a color that complements all the different color tones of that brick.
2. Take a sample of the brick that you are trying to match the paint to into your local paint store. With that sample they can match the color almost perfectly. It is only necessary to have a quarter-size sample for the match to be exact.
3. Compare paint swatches to the brick that you are matching the paint to. If it is not possible to take a sample into the paint store, then pick up paint swatches and bring them to the brick. Find the brightest and clearest lighting when deciding on which sample looks best.
4. Scrape all old paint or finish from the trim or wood that you are finishing. If it is fresh wood, then sand it enough just so that all the rough spots are smoothed out.
5. Paint the wood with the matched paint with a bristle brush, always going in the same direction as the grain of the wood. Additional coats may be required depending on the color that you are painting. Lighter colors tend to need more coats than darker colors.
