A color wheel takes some of the guesswork out of home decorating.
Though it's a simple tool, a color wheel can go a long way toward helping you decorate any room in your home. Interactive color wheels, like those you may find on virtual decorating software, are especially helpful because they allow you to try different color schemes without changing anything in the room.
Instructions
1. Choose a color from the wheel as the basis of your color scheme. You will find other colors on the wheel that complement this color well.
2. Find the color directly across the wheel from the color you chose. For example, if you chose blue, the color directly across from it will be orange. These are complementary colors, which you can use if you want to do a two-color scheme.
3. Find the colors on either side of the color you chose in Step 1. For example, your colors would be blue-green and blue-violet if you chose blue. These three colors are analogous colors, which you can use in a scheme with two or three colors.
4. Find the two colors that form an equidistant triangle with the color you chose in Step 1. For example, if you chose blue, these colors will be yellow and red. These are triad colors, which you can also use if you want to do a two- or three-color scheme.
5. Decide which of the color matches you prefer from Steps 2 through 4. Click the colors in your preferred match for use throughout the virtual decorating software. When you finish your virtual decorating, print out a page detailing the colors you chose and refer to it when shopping.
