Victorian Fresh paint Ideas

Paint your Victorian house with historically accurate colors.

Victorian-style homes are known for their asymmetrical shape, pitched roofs and whimsical spindles. Reds often were matched with green, gold and purple, according to paint manufacturer Sherwin Williams, which led to palettes made from opposites on the color wheel. If you would like to restore your Victorian house to its true colors, consider palettes that incorporate a trio of striking and complementary colors. Consult Victorian color palettes at a paint store and ask for historically accurate choices.

Sage-Wine-Gray

A pleasing trio palette for a Victorian home exterior consists of sage, or light, muted green; wine, a plum-red color; and gray. Use sage for the main color of the house. Paint posts and spindles white with accents of gray. Use the wine color for the trim around the windows and doors.

Deep Green-Harvest Gold-Berry Red

Create an autumnal feeling with a trio palette of deep green, harvest gold and berry red. Using deep green as the base color, paint the trim on the windows berry red or harvest gold. Paint the spindles and other trim harvest gold.

Rose-Pink-Hunter Green-Gray

Move into a more feminine palette inside the house with a palette of rose, pink, hunter green and gray. Paint the walls rose or pink, then use hunter green or gray for the accent trim.

Purple-Red-Sage-Teal

Another striking combination starts with purple or red walls. Accent them with sage or teal on the trim or other molding, such as crown molding and trim around the windows.
