Lead paint is poisonous.
Lead is a hazardous material that can result in poisoning and death. When lead is found in paints, especially in residential homes, the risk of poisoning residents is high. The risk is especially high for children. Due to proven health effects, removing lead paint is a necessity. In Ohio, there are specific rules for removing lead paint from residences.
Instructions
1. Contact the your landlord if you rent a house or apartment. It's the landlord's responsibility to remove lead paint.
2. Contact a contractor or the National Lead Information Center (NLIC) to find a lead abatement professional. Contractors hire certified lead abatement professionals who meet very specific standards and are licensed to remove lead paint. The NLIC also has a list of professionals available around the state.
