Remove Acrylic Paint From a Deck
Painting your home is something that can give your walls a fresh look, but along the way, the paint can get sloppy. If you have been painting your home or working on some crafts, you may notice that your deck has picked up a few spots of acrylic paint. Even worse, you may have spilled acrylic paint on your wooden deck. Cleaning acrylic paint from your deck can be challenging, but with time and the right tools, it can be accomplished.
Instructions
1. Wipe up the spill if it is still wet. If you have just spilled the paint, it is going to be in your best interests to get as much of it off the deck as possible before it soaks in. Acrylic is a water-based paint, but remember that it is mixed with acrylic resin. This means that it can bond very tightly to a porous surface.
2. Fill your bucket with hot water before adding soap.
3. Scrub your deck down with hot, soapy water. If the paint is very fresh or if the spill is fairly small, this might help you scrub get the acrylic paint off entirely.
4. Strip the area where the stain is with chemical stripper. There are many chemical strippers on the market, and they are quite powerful. Make sure that you follow the instructions when you apply it.
5. Clean the deck with the pressure washer. This step will let you remove the remnants of the paint from the wood. Pressure washers can be rented from local hardware stores; if you are dealing with a large acrylic paint stain, this can be a resource that makes things much easier on you.
6. Allow the deck to dry completely. This might take a day or so, depending on the weather and the humidity in the air.
7. Secure 60 grit sandpaper to your random orbit sander. While any sander can be used, this sander is ideal for work on your deck. If you do not own one, a random orbit sander can likely be rented from your local hardware store.
8. Sand the deck down using your random orbit sander. At this point, the paint stain should be gone.
9. Seal your wood using wood sealer. This will protect the wood and make further stains easy to wipe away or peel off.
