Hang game boards on the wall for decoration.
Creative game room wall decor adds a playful touch. Whether you choose a specific theme or go with general decorations, many wall ideas are simple to do yourself and don't require a large monetary investment. The one-of-a-kind wall decor makes guests want to come inside and play in the game room.
Mural
A mural offers a custom wall decoration for a game room wall. If the game room has a specific theme, incorporate the theme through the mural images. For example, if the family has a favorite professional football team that you're using as the theme, paint a large image of the team's logo. You can freehand the mural or use an overhead projector to trace an image onto the wall. Fill in the lines with paint to complete the mural.
A similar option is to use vinyl wall stickers to create a mural. Many vinyl sticker retailers allow you to order customized stickers that might include the family's name or a game-related quote. Choose images that relate to the game room theme. Arrange the stickers on the wall in a mural.
Game Boards
Game boards offer a strong connection to the overall functionality of the room. The colors and patterns on the game boards add interest to the wall decor. Pull out old game boards that you no longer use, or look at garage sales for inexpensive board games. Paint frames on the wall where you want to hang the game boards. Mount the boards in the middle of the frames. This adds more emphasis to the game boards. Pull some of the colors from the game boards as the wall paint colors.
Chalkboard
Chalkboard paint allows you to add a custom chalkboard on the wall. A chalkboard works well in a game room because it allows you to keep score and play games like Tic-Tac-Toe or Hangman. Most paint stores sell black and green chalkboard paint. Martha Stewart offers a way to make a custom color of chalkboard paint. Start with any color of latex paint in the flat finish. For every cup of paint you use, add 2 tbsp. of tile grout. Look for unsanded tile grout for this project. Stir the mixture until the grout is mixed throughout and there aren't any large globs. No matter what type of chalkboard paint you use, tape off the area where you want your chalkboard. Go with the traditional rectangle shape, or get creative and paint other shapes and images with the paint. You might use the chalkboard paint to make a football team symbol, giant dice or giant game pieces. Once the chalkboard paint is dry, get it ready by rubbing the side of chalk all over the surface. Wipe away the chalk.
Photo Wall
A photo wall adds a personal touch to the game room. Many pool halls and restaurants create photo walls of celebrities and patrons. Use the same idea in your own game room. Take photos of your family, as well as guests while they play in the game room. Frame the pictures and hang them on the photo wall. Have the people in the photo sign it the way celebrities do on their photos.
