Hardiplank siding is a durable home exterior product that is constructed of a sturdy cement fiber. It is well-renowned for protecting against the damage caused by extreme temperature variations, fire and insect infestation. This siding commonly survives what renders traditional wood products ineffective. Hardiplank siding is designed to be receptive to the application of exterior paint. Most homeowners are capable of adding a long-lasting finish with this weekend project.
Instructions
1. Use a garden hose to spray down the siding. Mix a bucket of warm water and ¼ cup of liquid detergent. Scrub the siding with an adjustable-handled scrub brush dipped in the cleaning mixture. Wash the siding from the bottom toward the top.
2. Rinse the surface with the garden hose. Allow four to six hours for the siding to completely dry. Check that all areas of the siding are sealed, and caulk any openings with an exterior latex caulk.
3. Paint all surface areas of the Hardiplank siding with a quality exterior primer. Be sure to coat the end pieces that are custom cut to form the edging of the corners. Allow the primer a few hours to dry.
4. Apply a quality exterior latex paint over the primer. Give the paint about two hours to begin drying, then add a second layer. Allow two days for the paint to completely dry.
