The sheer number of paint colors can be overwhelming.
Changing wall color is a relatively quick and inexpensive way to completely change the look of the room, but the sheer number of available colors can be too much. Before making a decision, plan the mood for that room and go from there.
Pastels
Adding white to a pure hue gives you a pastel. These colors are light and bright, and will visually open the space, making the room feel larger. Pastels reflect all available light, and tend to look best in rooms with plenty of natural light. Pastels walls create a soothing, relaxing atmosphere.
Mid-Tones
Mid-tones are saturated colors, or colors in their purest form, with no white, black, or gray added. They are very bright, but not necessarily light, and add a sense of casual excitement to a room. These colors work very well in living rooms, game rooms and kitchens, but avoid using more than two to keep from looking like a fun house. Pair mid-tones with pastel neutrals for a contemporary feel.
Darks
Dark colors run the gamut from smoky jewel tones, which add drama any mystery to warm earth tones, which add warmth and comfort. Dark colors can make a space look smaller, so plan enough lighting to banish corner shadows. Dark colors make a dramatic statement in rooms with high ceilings, or when paired with light neutrals, create bold contrast for visual impact.
