Get Rid Of Fresh paint In Texas

Paint is not disposed of like regular trash in Texas.

After you are all done painting a room, object or area of your home, you might find that you have some leftover paint. If you have no use for the paint or if there is only a very small amount left, you will need to dispose of it. However, in the State of Texas, paint is considered a hazardous waste. This means you cannot dispose of the paint along with your regular trash. Instead, you need to use a special disposal process.

Instructions

1. Let the paint dry out. Less than ¼ a can will usually dry out on its own, but more than that should be mixed with shredded newspaper to dry out.

2. Check for a household hazardous waste collection center in your area. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality can let you know if a permanent site is located near you, or if a hazardous waste collection event is going on near you any time soon.

3. Ask the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality about Texas County Cleanups if you live in a rural area of Texas. These are special programs that come to rural areas to collect items, like paint, for disposal.

4. Find a recycling program near you that accepts paint for disposal. You can locate these by using available resources, such as the recycling center locator offered through Earth911.com.
