Select A Fresh paint Color

Look at color swatches to compare similar colors.

Painting a room often feels like making a commitment. You may choose a color that you think you'll like, only to find that it doesn't look how you expected. Other times you may love the color at first, but soon grow tired of it. Because of the work involved in painting, it's usually beneficial to choose a color as carefully as possible. Only you will know which color you can live with every day, but some tips can help you make a choice that suits you.

Instructions

1. Pick a color that symbolizes something meaningful to you. This will help you choose one that you'll enjoy for a long time. Some common color associations include yellow for happiness, red for passion, green for nature and black for sophistication.

2. Select a color that emphasizes positive aspects of the room and minimizes the negative features. Use light colors to make a small room look spacious and dark colors to make a large room feel cozier.

3. Choose a color that works with your existing color scheme. The chosen color should complement the permanent fixtures in the room, such as a brick fireplace. Work within the same color palette to make a room look cohesive.

4. Use paint swatches and a color wheel to choose different shades of the same color, as a way of adding visual interest and separating the room.

5. Take light into consideration. The color you choose may look different when lit by different sources, such as natural or artificial light. Test a small section of paint on a wall to confirm that the color looks equally appealing under various light conditions
