Decorate the exterior of your home.
Many people decorate the interior of their homes, but forget to decorate the exterior. Decorating the exterior of your home adds curb appeal and may increase your home's value. Take into account all outdoor buildings when decorating your home's exterior. Undecorated outdoor buildings become an eyesore, drawing attention to them.
Pavers
Laying pavers on your lawn provides an exterior decoration to your home and landscaping. Create a walkway with pavers to your garden or patio. Pavers come in a variety of sizes, colors and shapes to match any decorating style. Pavers also prevent dirt from tracking inside your home because they are elevated from the ground slightly. If your lawn does have a walkway, you may wish to lay an entire patio with pavers. Select a weed killer and spray your lawn before you lay pavers, as this helps keep weeds from growing in or around your pavers.
Mulch
Mulch comes in a variety of materials and colors. Select mulch to complement or accent pavers or siding on your home. Lay mulch around shrubs, tree bases and flower beds. This prevents the grueling task of weeding the lawn and adds color to your lawn. You may wish to border an area around your shrubs, tree bases and flowers with decorative bricks. Bordering these items helps hold the mulch in place and creates a landscape design.
Plants
Plant flowers in your yard and around the exterior of your home for decoration. Flowers come in a variety of colors, sizes and shapes. You may wish to sit potted flowers and plants on your deck or create a border around a walkway. Paint the containers holding your plants for added decoration.
Paint
Decorate the exterior of your home by applying a fresh coat of exterior paint to the home and any outdoor buildings. If your home has a deck, paint the deck a different color than the home to accent the home's colors and the beauty of the deck. Outdoor buildings weather over time and painting them helps protect them from the weather elements.
Outdoor Lighting
Install solar lights around your walkway, pavers and deck. Solar lights stick in the ground and do not require electricity. They decorate the lawn and exterior of your home, as well as provide light during the evening. You may purchase solar lights inexpensively. Solar lights come in a variety of colors, styles and sizes to match the exterior decorations of your home.
