Fresh paint Color Suggestions For A House Theater Room

A home theater is the ideal spot for friends and family to gather to watch favorite movies. Painting a theater can be a fun weekend project for your family and a way to update your room without breaking your budget. Before you begin your project, look at color schemes that will harmonize with your existing furniture and accessories. To test out colors, buy a few sample cans.

Considerations

Choose a color scheme that will fit in with the existing design and decor of your room. Consider the function of the room and whether it will serve as a space for something other than watching movies. If your room is also a play area for your kids, think about colors that will invite creativity without hindering your nightly programs.

Subtle colors in a theater create a warm and inviting space without distracting from your movie or favorite programs. Lighter shades mixed with darker shades can create a bold yet cozy theater.

Colors

When you think of a theater, you think of dark colors, such as black and crimson. Theaters look attractive with lighter shades as well. For a mix of both light and dark, consider painting the wall in a deep blue on the upper half and a lighter shade of blue on the bottom half. Blues are ideal in a theater room because they complement dark and light furniture as well as create a cozy space. To create a third color, apply blue painters tape horizontally down the middle of the room. Paint the two blue colors on your white wall around the tape. When dry, gently peel away the tape for a contrasting white line.

For the quintessential theater color scheme, try black paint with red velvet curtains. Paint the ceiling and walls black and allow to dry for 24 hours. Attach red velvet fabric to a curtain rod. Allow at least 5 to 6 inches extra at the bottom of the curtains for draping. Hang the curtain rod at the base of the ceiling on the two opposing walls. Pull the fabric across the curtain rod for a dramatic effect. Curtains can be opened to create a different design or, if you wish, to hang up your favorite movie posters. The effect will be dramatic.

Chocolate and gray can create an elegant theater. Paint the ceiling a dark gray, making sure you choose a matte or flat finish for anti-reflection purposes. Next, paint the walls a rich chocolate color to create a dramatic space for watching your favorite movies. Brown colors on the wall are neutral so will match most theater furniture and accessories. For added drama in the theater, consider stenciling the ceiling in your favorite pattern. Use white for a contrasting effect that will be seen when you recline in your favorite chair.
