Interior Planning Popular Colors

Colors have the power to change the mood of a room.

Experiencing a space often begins with color. A white-walled room has a starkness. It's an empty canvas for emotions and ideas. Take that same room and paint it one of the popular interior design color choices, and suddenly your experience of this space evolves into visceral sensations. Claret rose might evoke a certain tenderness, coupled with a definitive vitality. A cedar green offers a gentler appearance that invokes a calming tone for the room. While there are several popular interior design colors, all are subjective and a matter of opinion.

Benjamin Moore

Benjamin Moore invites professional designers and homeowners alike to "envision color." The company's color swatches range from deep, solid colors such as Midnight Navy, to the more imaginative colors of Sundance and Thunder. With over 20 colors to choose from, Benjamin Moore provides choices that allow you to "explore color."

Sherwin-Williams

Sherwin-Williams offers a "Colormix 2011" collection of nearly 40 colors organized into four palettes, all with evocative names. Sherwin-Williams believes that this coming year's color trends are a celebration of "individualism--a trend toward not being trendy at all." The 39 colors make this one of the larger color trend collections. Those colors are divided into palettes called Purely Refined, Bold Invention, Restless Nomad, and Gentle Medley. Purely Refined offers colors such as "Rice Paddy" contrasted with bolder "Empire Gold." Restless Nomad offers daring colors such as "Exuberant Pink" and "Gypsy Red," but also earthier tones such as "Alchemy" and "Armagnac." Bold Invention contains colors such as "Synergy," a light blue, and "Parakeet," a surprisingly understated green. Finally, Gentle Medley offers fun colors such as "Breaktime" and "Sand Dune."

Choosing Paint Colors: Made Easy

Another collection of palettes from Choosing-Paint-Colors-Made-Easy.com, a website that offers "free" interior design advice, published the following titles for its current trend selections. "Earthen Goddess" is an obviously earthen collection. There are no reds or blues present in an assortment of browns and tans, greens and beiges. With names like "Cambridge River Bed" and "Fairview Taupe," these colors purvey a sense of being well-rooted and comfortable. "Inner Opulence" conversely offers bolder tones of "Persian Violet" and "Wild Orchid." Finally, "Playful Panache" is a return to more capricious solid colors of "Humming Bird" and "Salsa."
