Digitally paint a person in Photoshop using a photographic reference.
Digital paintings created in Adobe Photoshop can be as realistic as a traditional painting. Depending on your skill level, paintings are done freehand or with a reference. When painting people, it is always a good idea to have a reference on hand to get the correct proportions. One way to use a reference for painting people in Photoshop is by directly painting over a digital portrait of the subject. Take these photos yourself or download them from the Internet.
Instructions "New" > "Layer" and label it "Hair." Hit "OK."
7. Repeat Steps 4 and 5 for the subject's hair. Hit the "Alt" key and click on the hair mid-tone. Begin painting the mid-tone, then move on to the lighter and darker tones. There will be several more tones in the hair compared to the skin.
8. Go to "Layer" > "New" > "Layer" and label it "Clothing." Hit "OK." Repeat Steps 4 and 5 for the individual's clothing. Simply obtain the color in the photograph by holding the "Alt" key while clicking, then paint over the areas.
9. Hit the eyeball icon next to the layer with the photograph to make the photograph invisible. Fill in any gaps or white spots on each layer with paint. Go to "File" > "Open" and open the original photograph in another window.
10. Go to the "Brush" drop-down and change the brush to a smaller size. Paint details such as skin wrinkles, moles, buttons and individual hairs. Look at the photograph as a reference. Select the "Smudge" tool and change the brush to a "Wet Media Brush." Blend the paint together on each layer with the Smudge tool.
