A quick and simple way to get the word out about your upcoming yard sale, community theater performance, found dog or neighborhood meeting is through a flyer. Flyers are traditionally a one-sided page of standard 8.5 inch by 11 inch paper and may be as simple as just a few words, or as intricate as a finely detailed image and design. There's no need to pay for expensive graphic design when you can make your own fliers at home for free on your computer, using the Paint software program. Within a few minutes, you'll have made fliers ready to start handing out, mailing or posting on local bulletin boards.
Instructions
1. Open Paint by clicking the Image menu at the top of the screen and selecting Attributes. Set the size to 8.5 inches by 11 inches and click OK. A white box appears on the screen.
2. Click the Text tool, which looks like an "A," and click your cursor towards the top of the flyer box. Select a font. To grab attention, choose something big and bold such as Elephant. Type the flyer headline, such as "Huge Couch Sale!" or "Call for Karate Lessons."
3. Click your cursor further down the page and reduce the font size, then add more information, such as details of the upcoming event or meeting, a description of the item for sale or your credentials for giving lessons.
4. Place your cursor towards the very bottom of the flyer and add a way for readers to contact you, such as an email address or phone number. Don't forget to add dates, if your flyer is advertising an upcoming event such as a theater performance or band gig.
5. Click the Paintbrush tool and select the medium round brush head. Choose a color from the Color Picker at the bottom of the screen. Draw the outline of an image to go with your flyer, such as a guitar for guitar lessons, a dollar bill for a garage sale or a beach ball to advertise the opening of your community pool. Change brush heads and paint colors to add more accents to the image.
6. Give your flyer an eye-catching border by clicking the Airbrush tool and selecting the small whirl head below it. Choose a paint color, then drag your cursor around the flyer near the edges. This gives the frame a glittery, sparkly effect. Change paint colors to add more sparkles like a rainbow, or just stick to one or two colors matching your event's theme.
