Mix your own paints at home to create custom colors.
Sherwin Williams produces a wide variety of interior and exterior paints that can tinted to your desired color at the time of purchase. You can also mix the paint yourself to create custom colors if you desire. Mixing paint at home is not a difficult process but you must make sure that you mix enough paint to complete your project. If you run out of paint, you may find it difficult or impossible to recreate the color and texture of the first batch of paint you mixed.
Instructions
1. Place a plastic bucket on a plastic tarp to avoid splashing paint on your floors.
Sherwin Williams offers several different plastic buckets, mix buckets and steel paint pails that you can use to mix your paint.
2. Read the labels of the paints you want to mix together carefully.
If the paints have the same base you can mix them but you cannot mix paints with different bases. For example, water-based paints will mix together but a water based paint and an oil based paint will only create a sticky, gummy mess.
3. Pour the paints into the bucket.
Try not to fill the bucket more than 1/2 full so you can add more paint as necessary to adjust the color.
4. Stir the paint with a paint stirring stick until it has a uniform color.
5. Add more paint as necessary to tweak the color until you are satisfied with it.
Stir the paint well after each addition so you can evaluate the color and determine if you need more paint.
