A template provides a testing area for complicated paint designs.
A template is a board most paint stores carry. Boards come in a few widths and are typically white to represent a wall. Most templates are necessary when the type of paint going on the wall is a more complicated design, rather than just a simple paint color. Making a template is a fun way of experimenting with paint styles and colors. When making the template, it is important to get the proper paint color and finish. Most of the small samples of paint are in an eggshell finish, which is typically the most popular. If the template is painted with a stripe or other faux finish, the small samples of paint may not work. One example of a fun template is a tone-on-tone stripe.
Instructions
1. Paint the white board with a flat or mat finish for a two-tone stripe template, one color with two finishes. The white on the board should not show through; if it does, add a second coat.
2. Measure how wide each stripe will be and tape off the sections once the paint dries.
3. Paint the sections between the tape in satin or semi-gloss finish. When the paint is completely dry, pull off the tape.
4. Move the painted template to the desired room and hold it up to the walls to get an idea how it will look in that room. More than one template can be made for the same project.
