Fresh paint Heating Radiators

Shut off power to the radiator, and ensure that it is cool.

You can paint your heating radiators to help them blend in with the rest of the home. However, if you would like to paint your radiators, you need to consider two important factors before you get started. First, because radiators are metallic, you must abrade them with a special type of primer before any paint will stick. Second, because radiators operate at relatively high temperatures, you should choose a specific type of paint that can withstand heat without bubbling and peeling.

Instructions

1. Shut off power to the radiator, and ensure that it is cool.

2. Clean the surface of the heating radiator using dish soap and a coarse plastic brush. Rinse away all soap from the radiator using damp rags. Allow the radiator to dry.

3. Apply painter's tape to areas adjacent to the radiator, effectively protecting them from paint. Cover flooring beneath the radiator with a heavy-duty fabric drop cloth.

4. Apply a light coat of etching primer using a 2- to 3-inch latex paintbrush. Allow the primer to cure for four hours before painting.

5. Wash the brush with water.

6. Apply a coat of epoxy appliance paint to the heating radiator using the latex paintbrush. Allow the paint to cure for a full day before running the radiator.
