A house party makes guests comfortable and ready for fun.
A house party is probably one party venue that many people have in common. They are held in the homes of everyone from celebrities to everyday people. House parties make guests comfortable and relaxed. Most of the time there's no time limit on when the party ends. There's no parking problem. And unless there's a costume theme there is no dress code. The key is to get everyone invited to buy into the idea to make the house party memorable. Involvement helps to insure that a fun time will be had by all.
Bring a Balloon
There's something about balloons that instantly says, "there's a party going on" and make a house party look fun and celebratory. Ask each party guest to bring a balloon to the party. When they arrive let them give the balloon to the birthday person. The birthday person or party host can take the balloon and add it to a grand bouquet, place in a party room or outdoors. The effect of lots of balloons will add to the spirit of celebration.
BYOB
Include a note on the house party invitation to have guests bring their own bottle (BYOB). This old- school notice sets the tone for a house party. Plus, it helps to cut-down on the beverage costs of holding and hosting a birthday party. Get a cooler and stock it with ice for BYOB contributions of beer and wine. Set up a special area on the kitchen counter or make space on the kitchen table for BYOB contributions of liquor. The party host is responsible for providing seltzers, club sodas, water, colas and other mixers.
Bring a Dish
Asking guests to bring a food dish helps to make the birthday food table bountiful. It also gets guests engaged and involved in making the party special. When guests bring a dish it can help the party host concentrate on main courses. Give guests a hint and allow them to "free style" what they will bring by simply mentioning food contribution categories like salads, side dishes and condiments.
Bring a Wish
Attach a small note card inside the party invitation. Ask guests to write a word or short sentence wish for the birthday person on a small slip of paper and bring it along with them to the house party. As they arrive have them fold and place their birthday wish inside a large container like a punch bowl. Then have the birthday person read the birthday wishes aloud during the party or after cutting the birthday cake.
Bring a Song
Music makes a house party special. Engage guests by asking them to bring a mix of songs on a CD. Have them autograph the CD as a birthday gift. Have gift givers choose a selection or so to play during the party for everyone to dance, sing along and enjoy.
