There are several places you can look to for inspiration when choosing an accent wall color. The key is to look at the colors you're already using. Chances are that the accent color you ultimately choose already appears somewhere in your room. Use the tips below to help figure out which colors they are and to make your final choice.
Instructions
1. Write down the four most used colors in your room. Rank them in order of most-used to least-used. Choose either one of the two least-used colors as your accent wall color.
2. Choose a color from a painting or a fabric you've used in decorating your room. Ideally, you want it to be a color that stands out against the most-used colors in your room.
3. Choose a metallic paint as an accent. Many are available in shimmering gold, silver, copper, brass, chrome, or platinum. Painting an entire wall could be too much, but painting metallic colored stripes on one wall would be just enough to serve as an accent color. If you already have something metallic in your room, paint the stripes the same metallic shade. Or you can add new picture frames or plant containers in the same metal as you choose for the wall stripes.
4. Choose a lighter accent wall color to make a room seem bigger. If you want to make a room seem smaller and more intimate, paint one of the walls a dark accent color.
