Home theater screens are expensive additions that can drastically drive up the expense of making the most basic of home theaters. Yet a good screen is a necessary part of the viewing experience, which requires the best picture possible. A DIY solution saves money, while giving you a high-quality painted on screen, well tested by the DIY home theater community. The Black Widow screen paint formula only requires a few cans of paint to create and a few minutes to apply.
Instructions
1. Buy a quart of Pittsburgh Paints Bermuda Beige tinted flat enamel paint from a home improvement store. Ask the counter person in the paint section to mix the color for you. Purchase a small 8 oz. bottle of aluminum base paint from an auto parts store.
2. Prime the screen surface with a high quality white primer paint. Build up a single coat of the primer through the application of two or three thin layers using a low nap paint roller. Allow the primer to dry overnight before applying the screen paint.
3. Pour the two paints, the beige and the aluminum, into an empty pail. Mix the paints thoroughly using an electric drill with a paint mixing attachment. Combined, the two paints create 40 oz. of a neutral grey colored paint that removes color contamination from the light reflected from your screen and presents an accurate representation of the projected image.
4. Apply the screen paint over the primer with the low nap roller. Use multiple thin layers to build up a single coat of the screen paint. Allow the paint to dry overnight before use.
