Painting is a creative way to make a book cover design. A book cover gives the first impression to the potential reader, and draws them into the story. Creating an attractive book is the goal and it is a fairly simple task with minor artistic skills.
Instructions
1. Paint a base coat over the book cover with the largest sized brush. Place the book open on a flat surface with the front and back covers facing upward. Cover the entire surface with an even coat of paint. Allow paint to dry completely before continuing.
2. Paint the book title onto the front cover of the book. Use a 1/8-inch thick paint brush or smaller, depending on the length of the title. Allow the paint to dry. Paint over the title one to two additional times to create a legible and consistently solid finish.
3. Paint your desired design. Use a small detail brush and take your time to get it looking the way you want it, as once the paint is applied it is rather difficult to remove. Allow paint to dry completely before continuing. Choose a design for the cover that is consistent with the material in the book. For example, if the book is about a person's life, consider creating a design that shows the person's house, a self portrait or something valuable that is highlighted in the book. Thinking about the genre of the book may lend itself to concepts for cover designs, as well; science fiction may take place in outer space, while fantasy could have elements of magic or warriors. A children's book may have a central character to focus a cover design upon, whereas a romance could involve pirate ships or tropical settings that could be featured.
4. Paint on any details necessary to complete the title or design.
