A T-shirt can be silk screened with an image.
A silk screen is a fabric screen with a stencil on it. When various types of ink or paint are pushed through the silk screen, a copy of the stencil is made. Silk screens can transfer the stencil image onto most surfaces, such as wood, paper or cloth. When working with acrylic paint, silk screens should be cleaned immediately after use to prevent the paint from drying on the silk screen. If acrylic paint dries on the silk screen, it requires more work to remove.
Instructions
Wet Vinyl Paint
1. Fill a water container big enough to hold the silk screen with hot water and 1 tsp. of liquid dishwashing soap per gallon of water. Place the silk screen in the water immediately after using it.
2. Use a soft-bristled brush to brush the paint off the silk screen while it is in the water. Keep scrubbing to remove all paint.
3. Rinse the silk screen in cool water.
4. Allow the silk screen to air dry.
Dry Vinyl Paint
5. Complete steps 1 and 2 in section 1 to remove as much dried vinyl paint as possible.
6. Dip a small paint brush in a paint remover that can remove vinyl paint. Paint a thin coat of remover over the remaining paint on the silk screen. Follow the package instructions for the amount of time the paint remover should remain on the silk screen.
7. Fill a small bowl with two cups of warm water and 1/2 tsp. of liquid dishwashing soap.
8. Dip a soft-bristled brush in the mixture. Work it into the screen to remove the paint and paint remover.
9. Using a damp cloth, wipe down the silk screen to remove soap residue, paint and paint remover residue. Allow the silk screen to air dry.
