Vinyl binders can be painted with any number of designs.
Standard school supplies don't allow for much self-expression. You can buy all of the different colored binders that you want, but they're still plain and boring. However, there is one thing that you can do to express yourself -- you can paint vinyl binders with any combination of figures, letters, doodles, and drawings. Simply figure out what you want to paint, purchase some stencils, and be as creative as possible!
Instructions
1. Lay the newspaper down on a flat, dry surface, and place your binder on top of it.
2. Create your own stencils with stiff cardboard and an X-acto knife. First, sketch the design onto the cardboard with a pencil, then cut out the areas that will be painted. Make sure to cut out each area fully so that the edges are sharp, or else the design will look "fuzzy" in spots. You can also use store-bought stencils.
3. Place the first stencil down on the binder where you want the design to go. Tape it down securely with the painter's or masking tape around the edges. Place two strips of tape on either end of each side so that it won't budge while you're painting it. If it moves before you're done painting, the design may be ruined.
4. Shake the first spray paint can vigorously, then remove the cap.
5. Hold the can of paint about six inches away from the binder and fill in the intended part of the stencil.
6. Keep repeating steps 2, 3, and 4 until the design is fully rendered on the binder in all of the planned colors.
7. Coat the design with an even layer of the finishing spray once the initial paint has dried. The spray paint will dry in about an hour, while the finishing spray should take about 2 hours to dry fully. Once it does, your binder is ready for use.
