Fresh paint Decking For Idiot's

It's not hard to paint a deck.

Since your home's deck is outside and exposed to all of the elements year-round, you will need to paint your deck at some point. A high-quality paint job on a deck can boost the value of a home, and will give you and your family an inviting place to spend warm summer evenings. If you've never painted a deck, you may be interested in a guide that will explain paint a deck for dummies.

Instructions

1. Strip the old paint from your deck if necessary. Use a paint scraper and sandpaper to remove as much old paint from the deck as you can.

2. Decide what type of paint you want to use on your deck. Two-part polyurethane is the most durable and highest-quality type of deck paint; it is also the most expensive. A one-part polyurethane is similar to the two-part polyurethane paint, but is not as durable or expensive. You can also use traditional oil-based paints on your deck. These are the most economical and easiest to apply, though not as durable as polyurethane paints.

3. Cover areas you don't want painted with plastic sheeting. Use painter's tape to tape down the edges of the plastic. This will give you a clean paint line when you remove the tape after you paint your deck.

4. Use rollers to apply the paint to the deck. An extension handle can help you get to hard-to-reach areas. Make sure to apply enough paint to the deck to protect it. However, two thin coats that dry fully are better than one thick coat than can't dry correctly.

5. Apply a deck sealant once the paint it has fully dried. This will help to protect the deck from the effects of wind, water and UV rays.
