Calculate Milliliter Ratios In Fresh paint

Thanks to modern paint technology, you can paint your walls almost any color you can imagine. Of course, cans of wall paint are only sometimes manufactured and sold in pre-mixed colors. Usually, the associate at your paint store must add certain quantities of liquid "pigments" to white paint, which will result in that paint being tinted to the color of your choice. One way to express the proportions of certain pigments to the total volume of the paint is using milliliter (ml) ratios.

Instructions

1. Refer to your paint can lid and record the measurements for each of the pigment. For example, a can of dark green paint might contain 7.92 ml of blue pigment, 7.20 ml of yellow pigment and 2.88 ml of black pigment.

2. Divide each of your milliliter values by the total volume of the paint can. If your paint can is 720 ml, for example, you would divide the values for blue, yellow and black as follows: 7.92/720 = .011; 7.2/720 = .010; 2.88/720 = .004.

3. Convert your decimal values into whole numbers. For your example values --.011, .010 and .004 -- you would first multiply each by 1,000 to get rid of the decimals: .011 x 1000 = 11; .010 x 1000 = 10; .004 x 1000 = 4. Your milliliter ratio is therefore 11:10:4, blue, yellow and black.
