When you are painting walls in your home or painting an art project, the fumes can be very powerful. Also, if there is a spill the paint stain can dry and leave an unpleasant, long-lasting odor. It’s important to take preventive measure to avoid a strong odor before you start painting, and you should also wear a mask to cover your mouth and nose while you paint. While the paint is drying you can also find ways to remove the odor.
Instructions
1. Remove all items from a room you are painting so that there are no items that can trap the odor, such as blankets or couches.
2. Open the windows in your home.
3. Use a paint that says it is low odor on the label, such as a latex paint.
4. For shellac, alkyd and alcohol-based paints, add 1 tbsp. of vanilla extract and then stir with a wooden stirring stick.
5. Soak up any fresh paint stains immediately using a wet towel.
6. Cut fresh onions using a sharp knife into several slices and then place the slices into bowls. Add water to the bowl. Place the bowls into areas around the paint or stain odor to help absorb the smell for at least two to three days, and continue to keep the room well ventilated.
7. Crush wood charcoal into small pieces and fill a bucket with the pieces. Add pieces of wet paper towels to the bucket and then leave the bucket in the center of the room overnight.
8. Place a burning scented candle in a small bowl of water and leave it in the room for at least three hours.
