Many people have carpeting or flooring down that they don't care for, but are unable to change. The answer to this dilemma is to finish the subfloor. It's a simple and inexpensive solution that can last years if you need it to, and will have no effect on any changes you decide to make later. Painting your subfloor to look like wood is easy.
Instructions
1. Fill any cracks and crevices with wood putty before you begin painting your subfloor.
2. Sand the floor to provide a smooth final finish.
3. Start by painting the subfloor with a darker color, usually red or yellow in undertone. Allow the paint to dry thoroughly before you apply the faux finish.
4. Apply the brown paint in a long line and immediately pull a wood-graining rocker through it, rocking back and forth to create the faux wood effect complete with knots. Clean the rocker after each stroke. Continue this process until the entire subfloor is faux finished.
5. Draw the lines between your faux boards with a thin black permanent marker.
6. Seal your new faux wood floor with polyurethane to protect your work. The more coats of polyurethane you apply, the more durable your final outcome will be. Remember to sand lightly in between coats.
