Use neon glow sticks at a glow in the dark party.
A glow in the dark party is a festive theme for a teen or preteen gathering. The lively colors of the neon party supplies and accessories enhance the excitement of partying in the "dark." Incorporate glow in the dark elements in everything from the invitations and decorations to the food and drink. Throw this party to leave guests glowing -- and raving about how much they enjoyed themselves.
Instructions
1. Use highlighter markers to write the invitation details on black paper. Inform guests of the date, time and location of the party. Indicate that it is a glow in the dark party where guests should wear either black or neon clothing.
2. Clear the party area of furniture or obstructions guests may walk into or trip over in the dark or under limited lighting.
3. Purchase glow in the dark paint from the craft store. Paint several empty mason jars with a coat of the neon paint. Allow to dry. Place a flameless candle inside each jar to create glow in the dark luminaries.
4. Cut out star shapes from cardboard and paint them with the glow paint. Allow to dry and hang around the party room.
5. Purchase glow sticks and balloons from the party supply store. Shortly before the party starts, bend each glow stick until the color tube pops as instructed on the package. Place one glow stick inside of each balloon. Inflate the balloons with helium, and allow them to float toward the ceiling. If the party is outdoors tie the balloons to grounded items such as deck rails, fence posts and patio chairs.
6. Purchase several glow in the dark bracelets and necklaces. Bend these to pop the color tubes and link them together to form chain links. Hang them around the party space.
7. Give each guest a glow in the dark jewelry and stickers as they arrive, as well a miniature flashlight to provide additional lighting when needed. Instruct them to place the stickers on their clothing and to string the bracelets and necklaces together to create head bands, waistbands and ankle bracelets.
8. Set up a station where guests can have glow in the dark temporary tattoos and facepaint applied.
9. Cover a large table with a neon tablecloth. Place food items in glow in the dark serving bowls. Provide glow in the dark cups for drinks. Tape glow sticks or bracelets around the outer edge of the table.
10. Place glow sticks instead of candles in the cake if it is a birthday cake. Bake cupcakes and frost with brightly colored frosting. Stick a glow stick in each one.
11. Play dance music to for entertainment and to create a visual effect with the motion of the glowing accessories.
