Enjoy creating a living and dining area that flows.
Fixing up an adjoining living and dining area involves choosing paint colors and furniture that blend well in each room. Combination dining and living rooms are open to each other, so everything is seen throughout both rooms. However, you can create distinctive accents within each area as long as the decor and paint complements the colors and style in both rooms. Use similar light fixtures in each room.
Instructions
1. Decide on one paint color for the living and dining room area, unless you want to create accent walls within each room. Choose two colors that complement each other, if you decide to paint one accent wall in each room. Colors that work together include burgundy and plum or forest green and burgundy. Just make sure that the furniture in the room matches these colors as well.
2. Paint all the walls one color throughout both rooms and leave the ceiling white. However, leave all the walls white except for one wall in the living room and one wall in the dining room, if you decided on the accent wall option. Choose an accent wall that doesn't have any windows on the wall. Look at the overall floor plan and decide if one color on all the walls or accent walls work best. Sometimes accent walls don't work well. Choose the accent wall option if the largest wall in each area doesn't have windows. Again, this all depends on the floor plan.
3. Adorn your dining table with a tablecloth that matches the colors in the room. Choose pillows for your couch that match accents in the dining area as well. Plum and burgundy pillows work well if there are a lot of bold rich colors and cherry wood furnishings in the dining and living room.
4. Place couch covers over your furniture if you find that the couches clash with everything else in the room.
5. Install the same colored window treatments in both the living and dining room, so that everything flows well.
