Fans of the Washington Redskins are among the most devoted in all of sports. Buying season tickets, organizing tailgate parties and celebrating great wins is just a part of showing Redskins pride. You may want to show your allegiance to the team by painting a room (or two) in your house in Redskins colors.
Instructions
1. Give your den or home office a base coat in the Redskins' official colors, burgundy and gold. Consider the burgundy on the bottom half of the walls and the gold on the upper half. They are bright and distinctive colors and everyone will know that you are a fan of Washington's football team. Leave the ceiling white or the room will be too dark for the eye.
2. Put up a football border at the top of the wall that extends around the room. Go to your local wall paper store and tell them you are preparing a room in Redskins' colors. They will set you up with a border that should measure anywhere from 8 to 10 inches. The border may be Redskins-oriented if they have it, but a football-action scene will suffice. Activate the glue on the back of the border with water and apply it after the room has been painted in the basic Redskins' colors.
3. Add pictures of great Redskins' players for your wall. An action shot of former Redskins' quarterback Sony Jurgensen is a must. Though Jurgensen's career ended in the 1970s, he is remembered as one of the most accurate passers in NFL history. He is also featured on Redskins' radio broadcasts and is well-known to younger fans of the team. Other Redskins greats include former coach George Allen, running back Clinton Portis, wide receiver Art Monk, Super Bowl quarterbacks Doug Williams and Joe Theismann and former running back John Riggins.
4. Give former head coach Joe Gibbs an entire wall in your Redskins room. Gibbs is not only a Hall of Famer, he coached the Redskins to three Super Bowl titles with three different quarterbacks. He won with Joe Theismann, Doug Williams and Mark Rypien. While all were good quarterbacks, none were all-time greats. Gibbs is thought of as one of the great offensive minds in NFL history and was an excellent strategist and motivator. No other coach has led the Redskins to a Super Bowl title.
5. Put up framed memorabilia of the Redskins around your room. An autographed jersey from one of your favorite players could be a centerpiece and a conversation starter. Consider a picture of old RFK stadium filled to capacity or newspaper headlines celebrating the team's three Super Bowl titles. Pictures of significant action from wins over hated rivals like the Cowboys, Eagles and Giants should be featured prominently.
