Don't be afraid to try bold exterior colors.
The color of your house makes a big first impression. It could be forever known as "that ugly yellow house" among your neighbors. Take your time to choose the right color that integrates within the context of your neighborhood and the style of your home. Consider a few beautiful house facade colors that will always be classic.
Neutrals
Neutrals never go out of style. White, beige, off-white, gray and taupe are all crisp shades that successfully highlight the clean forms of many American residential styles, including Federal style, Colonial and even bungalows from the Arts and Crafts movement. If painting your whole house a light shade seems dull, add accents in the form of dark-colored shutters and trim pieces.
Jewel Tones
Jewel-like tones such as navy, forest green, burgundy and deep yellow-gold look rich and elegant. You can apply these shades to wood siding or other types of cladding that readily accept paint. If your home is clad in vinyl siding, work with your manufacturer to achieve a rich custom color. Or you can combine jewel tone accents, such as a richly painted front door, with a more neutral color scheme.
Bold Shades
You might have heard of the "Painted Ladies," a row of brightly colored Victorian homes in San Francisco. If you live in a Victorian-inspired home in a historic neighborhood, you can follow such a scheme and still be true to its original history. In other neighborhoods, however, these colors might offend your neighbors. Try a more subtle take and work these shades in as accents, or perhaps delegate them to the interior.
Rely on Character of Cladding Material
If your home is clad in beautiful, natural materials such as stone, wood or stucco, celebrate the essence of them. Don't cover them with paint or other surfaces that might conceal their innate textures. Coordinate details to compliment the colors of these natural materials. Sometimes a facade should run deeper and contribute to the essence and true character of a home.
