Mixing paint can give you a wider variety of colors for your project.
How many times have you gone to the store looking for a specific color only to find it is not in stock? Your ideal picture of a colorful room or painting can disappear in that instant. Experiences such as this can be frustrating, but you can take steps to avoid them. If your choice of color is simple, you can create the appropriate shade of paint yourself using two or more colors of paint. The combination of the colors can create the shade you originally intended.
Instructions
1. Select the colors of paint you need to create your ideal shade. For example, if you want a green-colored paint, you need blue and yellow. The amount of yellow and blue you mix will determine the exact shade of the green. If you add more yellow, the green will be lighter, but if you add more blue, it will become darker.
2. Dip a paintbrush into one color of paint and dab it into a paint dish. Clean your brush and dip it into the other color of paint. Use your brush to combine the colors in the paint dish. Depending on the shade you desire, you may discover you need need different mixes of paint. For example, you may need to mix two parts blue with three parts yellow to make your ideal shade.
3. Paint a small stroke of the final paint color onto a piece of paper. Let it dry to determine if you still like the color. After all, the shade can change once the pain is dry. Make adjustments as necessary to your wet paint to achieve the shade of paint you want.
4. Pour your different colors into a large empty container, such as a five-gallon bucket. Rapidly mix the colors together using a paint stick. Take a small sample of the mixed paint and dab it onto your color dish next to your original sample color. Compare the two visually and determine if the colors match or if you must add more of a certain color to the mix.
