Choose Some Fresh paint Schemes

Choosing paint schemes takes planning and preparation.

When it comes to decorating your home, choosing the right paint schemes for your style is the part of the process that has the most impact on the finished product. The last thing you want is for your colors to clash or for any part of the color scheme to be visually overbearing. In order to pick paint schemes, you need to take the necessary steps to ensure that you pick the colors you want.

Instructions

1. Create a sample board of possible color swatches for all rooms you plan to paint. You can obtain a wide variety of samples that you are able to take home at most paint stores.

2. Test the samples in each room you are decorating at different times of the day. This allows you to see the effect that natural sunlight has on the paint color.

3. Plan the paint schemes of each room so that they are consistent with the rooms they are visible from. For instance, if you can see your office from your second bedroom, those two color schemes need to complement each other.

4. Choose the colors you like the best out of all of the samples you brought home. Make sure to choose only two patterns and no more than four core colors; more than this will create too much of a visual stimulation.

5. Decide which color scheme works well with the colors you have chosen. The main categories of color schemes are complementary, split complementary, related and monochromatic. If all of your colors are in the same family, but a different hue -- such as light blue and dark blue -- you will use a monochromatic color scheme. If you have colors that related to each other -- such as pink and fuchsia -- you will use the related color scheme. The complementary and split complementary color schemes are color schemes that use three or four colors from the color wheel that are opposite each other.
