Painting a church ceiling is very similar to painting the ceiling of any tall room. When painting tall ceilings over 10 feet you should use scaffolds to reach the ceiling and paint comfortably. A scaffold is a system of modular metal pipes connected together to create an elevated platform that allows you to reach whatever height you need. The most convenient feature of the scaffold is the ability to move the scaffold via its wheels.
Instructions
1. Build scaffold to the height needed to comfortably reach the ceiling. Follow the instructions that come with the scaffold for proper building instructions, as they vary based on manufacturer.
2. Clean the ceiling of any dust and debris. Use a broom to sweep the ceiling clean.
3. Cover all holes and cracks in the ceiling. Use the patching compound to cover the holes and cracks, and apply the compound with the spatula. Once the compound dries, sand it over with the sand paper. Consult the package for drying time as compound drying times vary by manufacturer.
4. Prime the ceiling with primer; apply the primer with the paint sprayer. Apply the primer in a thin even coat. Let the primer dry for four hours before painting.
5. Paint the ceiling with the paint sprayer. Apply the first coat of paint in a thin and even coat. Let the first coat dry at least six hours before applying a second coat of paint.
