Decide on a design well before applying the first coat.
For many gaming fans, playing video games is more than a simple hobby. Whether it's rushing home to master the latest first-person shooter, attending gaming conferences and conventions or customizing equipment, many people see gaming as an extension of themselves. For some, personalizing game consoles and controllers is a part of the experience of playing. Some stores and online outlets offer themed controllers, but to truly get the most personalized controller you will likely have to paint it yourself.
Instructions
1. Come up with a design for your controller. The design does not have to be too specific, just an outline of what you want to paint. It may be useful to work out the design on a piece of paper, unless you are using a single color.
2. Disassemble your controller using the screwdriver (see Resources), and wipe down the shell with your cloth. You may use rubbing alcohol or glasses cleaner to clean off the case's exterior.
3. Lay down the newspaper before putting down the base coat of paint with the aerosol paint can. This is the color you decided would dominate your design's background. Next, cover the areas that will feature the base color with masking tape.
4. Continue applying coats of paint according to the pattern or design you came up with. Allow the controller to dry for at least one minute before applying the next coat. Use the brush you appropriated from a model kit to add greater detail to the controller. These brushes are smaller and finer than other brushes, giving you more control.
5. Apply a clear sealant over the coats of paint. Let the controller sit and dry for at least several hours, but preferably several days. After the paint has finished drying, you can reassemble your controller.
