Create Free Invites To Some Kids' Party

Create kids' party invitations for free on the computer.

The first step in filling your house with guests for a child's party is to let them know of the big event. Instead of buying generic invitations at the store, create custom invitations featuring your child's name and party details right on the card. Take advantage of programs you already have on your computer or free trial downloads to create free kids' party invitations that will really stand out in the mailbox.

Instructions

Using Paint

1. Open Paint. Click the Paint button in the top-left corner of the screen, and select "Properties." Type the invitation dimensions into the "Width" and "Height" boxes, such as "4 inches" and "6 inches," respectively. Click "OK," and Paint automatically resizes the workspace.

2. Select a colored square from the "Colors" section of the ribbon/toolbar at the top of the screen, such as one of the party theme colors. Click the "Text" tool, which looks like an "A" in the "Tools" section.

3. Click the top of the invitation, and select a font and text size. Type the main invitation greeting, such as "You're Invited to Max's Birthday Party!"

4. Change to a new paint color, and reduce the font size. Type party details, such as date, time and location, plus what to bring, wear, whether parents are invited and respond.

5. Click the Paint button, click "Save As," type the invitation name, and save it to the computer.

Using Word

6. Open Word or download a free trial. Click the "File" tab at the top of the screen. Click "New." Click the "Invitations" button in the middle of the "Available Templates" screen.

7. Double-click the "Party invitations" folder. Scroll through the different party invitation themes and designs, all which may be customized for your child's event. Double-click an invitation template, and it opens a new document in a new Word window.

8. Highlight the main invitation greeting on the card, and type directly over it with your own, such as "Please Join Us for Johnny's 5th Birthday." Replace the other text boxes on the card with your own details such as party address, date and time and contact phone number or email address.

9. Click once on a picture on the invitation, and press the "Delete" key to remove it. Click the "Insert" tab at the top of the screen. Click "Clip Art." Type "birthday," "balloons," "kids," "presents" or another word or phrase into the "Search for" box. Click "Go," scroll through the results, and double-click a graphic to add it to the invitation.

10. Click the "File" tab, and select "Save As." Give the invitation a name, and save it to the computer.

Using Publisher

11. Open Publisher, and click the "Invitation Cards" button on the "Available Templates" screen. Scroll through the different invitation options, or click the "All Party" folder for more designs. Double-click an invitation, and within a few moments, it opens in the Publisher workspace.

12. Highlight the main placeholder greeting on the card, and type over it with your own, such as "James' Halloween Party." Click and highlight the other text boxes on the card, and replace them with party information, such as drop-off and pick-up time, what will be served, what to bring and R.S.V.P.

13. Draw a square with the cursor around any design elements to remove from the card, such as pictures or unneeded text boxes. Press the "Delete" key to remove them.

14. Click the "Insert" tab at the top of the screen. Click the "Clip Art" button below the tab. Type a word or phrase related to the party into the "Search for" box, and click "Go." Scroll through the images, and double-click one to add it to the card. Repeat to add more images to the invitation.

15. Click the "File" tab, click "Save As," type a name for the invitation, and save it to the computer.
